LeapFrog SchoolHouse and the Institute for School Innovation (ISI) have joined forces to help K–5 teachers use technology and curriculum from LeapFrog SchoolHouse to meet their goals for Project CHILD implementations. Educators using the CHILD formats may choose from the following two options designed to promote differentiated instruction within their small-group learning center environments:

This special configuration of the award-winning LeapTrack® System allows educators to incorporate formative assessment and individualized instruction in reading, math, and language arts into the full CHILD model. In addition to LeapTrack training and support available from LeapFrog SchoolHouse, ISI has developed an implementation guide to help CHILD teachers configure and manage the system within the CHILD cluster format.

CHILD educators, as well as educators using the CHILD First Steps-Reading model now have access to 243 Task Cards written and produced by ISI to support custom bundles of LeapFrog SchoolHouse curriculum and technology for early literacy and reading. These special bundles for K–5 Reading & Listening Stations and Word Study Stations incorporate grade-level interactive learning tools from LeapFrog SchoolHouse and Task Cards from Project CHILD. The Task Cards tie directly to reading skills, offering specific instructions to keep students focused and on task. Designed for small-group instruction and 90-minute reading blocks, the learning stations accommodate up to six students.

The Task Cards from ISI provide an important classroom management tool in the highly acclaimed Project CHILD instructional system. Each Task Card offers detailed instructions to help students complete the activity independently, without interrupting the teacher, who may be working with other students in small instructional groups or one-on-one. The Task Cards show the students how to manage their individual work time, as well as provide strategies for working with a partner or with a small group. Every Task Card includes a challenge level designed to extend the activity for students who are working at higher mastery levels.

Each Task Card also shows, at a glance, what skills are embedded in the activity and what supplemental materials may be required, as well as directions explaining the activity to the student. For teachers, the Task Cards also specify where to find additional skill-based activities in the LeapFrog SchoolHouse companion software program, Link to Lessons, and which ancillary workbook pages to use.
